Description:
One of the most visited temples in the Tirupati area is the Sri Govindarajaswami temple dedicated to an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The temple has an imposing gopuram and the main sanctuaries in the temple are dedicated to Vishnu and Krishna.
The only temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in the area is the Kapileswaraswami Temple situated at the foot hills of the Tirumala Hill. Set amidst all the Vaishnava temples, there is also a sacred waterfall called Kapila Teertham or Alwar Teertham located here.
Built by a Chola king during the tenth century A.D., the Kodandaramaswami Temple is situated in the heart of Tirupati-Balaji town. The temple dedicated to Lord Rama has a legend behind it that Rama had visited this place and the temple is in the commemoration of that visit. The temple has idols of Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshmana.
Located between two steep hills on the banks of the river Swarnamukhi about 36 km from Tirupati-Balaji, is Sri Kalahasti temple dedicated to the wind God. The river running north touches the base of the temple.
On the confluence of three rivers, namely, Swarnamukhi, Bhima and Kalyan, lies the Agastyaswamy Temple around 12 kms from Tirupati-Balaji . The temple has three beautifully sculptured entrances that heighten the grandeur of the hall inside. A separate shrine for Goddess Parvati is also located within the temple.
